Tea Carries the Way, Charcoal Carries the Heart: Teagraphy's Taiwan Hillside Story

What we are made of: tea, craft, and three generations

At Teagraphy, the soft crackle of longan charcoal, the smoke and the scent of fresh leaf braid together into the soul of every cup. That is where we started: a tea brand born in the 1970s and rooted in the green hills of Taiwan.

From an ordinary tea garden to a fragrance worth remembering

Our story begins in the Taiwanese countryside of the 1970s. Like many tea farmers then, our grandparents worked the land by hand, raising tea bushes through sun and rain. Planting, picking, processing, roasting - every step took everything they had. Over the decades we kept refining the craft, distilling the essence of tea making, and earned a name locally for quality.

In the 1980s Taiwan's tea industry turned to high mountain cultivation, producing leaf with a clean floral character. We moved with it, working with good growers in Nantou and elsewhere, but held on to one craft of our own: roasting over longan charcoal. It is slow work - selected longan charcoal, a fire held at 100-150°C, and 8 to 36 hours of roasting - and it gives the tea the smooth, sweet character that has become our signature.

Teagraphy is born: tradition meets the present

In 2014 we turned the family business into a company and founded the Teagraphy brand, bringing together Taiwan's tea tradition and a modern outlook. The Chinese name carries its meaning plainly: "charcoal" for the fire craft that is ours alone, and "chronicle" for three generations of history. The road was not smooth - we had to find a balance between the old way and the new. What we inherited is an asset, and also a responsibility. Faced with the pull of mechanised mass production, we chose to hold our ground: every batch is still roasted by hand, keeping that smoky sweetness and its lasting finish.

Our craft: the warmth of longan charcoal roasting

Longan charcoal roasting is at the heart of Teagraphy. It is slow, exacting work that demands patience and precision. Sustainably gathered longan wood gives the tea a rich yet delicate aroma and a long, sweet finish. This is not merely how we make tea; it is our commitment to looking after a piece of Taiwanese heritage. We work with growers who farm safely, so that every cup is clean, wholesome and honest, and carries the goodness of the land.

A fragrance that carries culture

Teagraphy is more than a tea brand; it is a bridge between past and present, between tradition and what comes next. Every cup is the work of three generations, the warm character that longan charcoal gives, and something of the soul of Taiwanese tea. From the gardens of Nantou to your cup, we hope every mouthful lets you feel the warmth of what has been handed down.
